What is QTL?


QTL (Quantitative Trait Locus) optimisation lets evolution generate the optimum strains and then identifies the specific regions of the genome that have been improved for key production traits – like yield, protein folding, secretion, genetic stability or downstream processing convenience.

Instead of relying on single-chassis strain engineering, QTL technology targets multiple traits simultaneously and evolves strains over billions of progeny to optimise them in combination.

 

How it works


  1. Strain breeding: We draw from proprietry yeast strain libraries, containing globally sourced diversity to maximise genetic potential.
  2. Whole-genome screening: Strain libraries are screened at scale to identify top performers.
  3. Iteration: The best performers are analysed to select suitable parents and bred again. Each round of breeding pushes the strain closer to peak performance.

This multi-round breeding process delivers strains that consistently outperform traditional single-step engineering.
